ROSA, the Owner of Studio “Casa del Sol Naciente”

Cabana Sky would like to introduce our newest partner in non-profit contributions: Ms. ROSA, the Tailor with a Giving Heart.

Ms. Rosa shared with us, Cabana Sky founders, about her journeys from her teenage years until now. When she was 19 years-old, she migrated to the USA and was pregnant with her third child, she did not know what to do with her life. Fortunately, she received free education about sewing and pattern design. She vowed to herself later in life she would give back to women from all walks of life of life free sewing/pattern classes.

After residing in Baja California, Mexico, that is exactly what she is doing and being — being a tailor, a textile mentor, and giving back her textile skills to women who are mostly housewives in low-income communities and are willing to learn from her and in the process upgrade their standards of living themselves.

Ms. Rosa has been teaching textile classes for 4 years. She moved from the old place across the street to the new studio Casa del Sol Naciente that are three sizes bigger than the old one. In sewing pattern classes, Ms. Rosa provided all the materials. When the students graduate, usually around 1-2 years, Rosa gives them sewing machines (refurbished) and textile materials.

Since Ms. Rosa is a partner with Cabana Sky, she participated in the UPCYCLE Program. She also teaches women in shelters in sewing classes how to transform peshtemal materials into pouches, baby bags, baby bibs, baby diapers, soft toys, etc…

When we interviewed her recently with the question “What do you think it’s important to give back?” Ms. Rosa said she received free education early in life, she said it’s important to give back what she received and it makes her happy and peaceful.

To our second question “What is your plan for the next 5 years?” Ms. Rosa said she is looking forward to having more classes of sewing collaboration.

To our third question “What’s you love about your food, and Why it’s important to have good energy? Ms. Rosa said it’s important to eat well and healthily. She drinks lots of water, eats fish, seafood, no meat, lots of vegetables, and activities like walking and meditation that give her peace.

Ms. Rosa demonstrated many uses of peshtemal such as scarves, shawls, sarongs, dresses to wear on the beach, etc… to cut up peshtemal materials to make pants. 👖

Cabana Sky founders are so grateful for Ms. Rosa to be on board and aligned with our mission and vision of giving back to communities, making a huge difference in many women's lives and also the planet through our UPCYCLE program of used peshtemal materials. ♻️
